How do you know if someone is viewing your Instagram?

No one posts on Instagram in a vacuum. Even private accounts want people to view and interact with their perfectly framed, tinted photos. Unfortunately, not all who come to your page like or comment on your posts. At some point everyone is wondering “who viewed my Instagram”, but the answer can be frustrating. It’s possible to know when people are viewing your posts, but only on certain types of posts.

How to make your Instagram private

For your standard Instagram posts, there is nothing you can do to see who is viewing your photos unless they are interacting with you. If your account is public, anyone is free to stumble upon or prowl your page at any time, unless you’ve blocked their account. (Here’s how to tell if someone has blocked you on Instagram.) Even with blocked accounts, however, the user can simply log out and view your profile on mobile, or create a new account, to view your content.

If you are worried about who is viewing your account without authorization, the best solution is to make your account private. This will have a huge impact on your engagement with other site users, and it will make interacting with you more difficult, but it will allow you to put your privacy above all other concerns. To make your Instagram account private, tap on the profile icon in the app’s bottom menu. Once you are on your profile, select the speed icon at the top right of the screen. The gear will display the Instagram Settings menu.

In the Settings menu, scroll until the Account options appear. Halfway you will see a button for Private Account. This feature prevents anyone who is not already following you from seeing your account and requires you to manually approve all new follower requests.

If that seems like too drastic a measure, go ahead and block your enemies one at a time.

Does an Instagram filter really hide my face?

On Instagram the more we see the more we are appreciated and for that the tendency is to put filters in his stories, allowing to completely change a look. The idea is to take beautiful photos, to embellish or to promote a brand or a product.

You can also create your own Instagram filter, by adding emojis, colors, shades, the more there are the more your face will be hidden. But do filters really hide a face? Filters are often used for hiding, but is this really the case?

Filters are only illusions, reality always resurfaces, in real life filters are not existing and it is not possible to hide behind them. You have to use them wisely, with a real purpose behind.

They are great for promoting, but they won’t be able to hide a face, that’s not their purpose. They are fun and allow brands to gain prominence, social networks are a necessary communication channel. This is the opportunity to stand out with personalized filters created to measure.

Filters are also widely used by influencers, when they create stories to promote a product, it is rare to see them without filters. The most popular influencers don’t wait long to create their own filter and offer them to their followers.

How to see who viewed my Instagram Story

In the summer of 2016, Instagram introduced its Stories feature, allowing users to create Snapchat-like videos that only last for a limited time. This feature is massively popular and luckily Stories also has the best privacy settings of all Instagram features.

Instagram Stories automatically tracks your account’s privacy settings. If your account is private, your stories are private. Articles posted to the public accounts can be viewed by anyone. However, unlike standard Instagram posts, you can see who is viewing your stories.

To see who is viewing your Instagram Story, go to your profile and select your own story. While reading, swipe up from the bottom of the screen. This brings up a page showing who has viewed the videos and photos in your Instagram story.

The features don’t end there.

Let’s say while going through your list of your Instagram stories, you see someone you don’t want to see your story. Next to each name on the list of those who viewed your story is a small X. Clicking on that X allows you to prevent that user from viewing your stories, even if they are following you. Blocking someone from your stories won’t block them from your main feed, just your stories.

Checking out who’s viewed your story might seem like a half measure, but rest assured that anyone who watches all of your stories is probably looking at your account, too. Since Instagram doesn’t let you know exactly who is viewing your content, this method is a solid alternative.

Who has seen my Instagram apps?

Any app that claims to let you see who is viewing your Instagram account is lying to you. Some apps may be able to track who has followed you on Instagram since you last logged in, but it is impossible for an app to track your followers. Instagram’s API does not expose or share this type of information, making it impossible for an app developer to provide this service.

What is an API? An API, or application programming interface, allows two applications to communicate with each other. APIs control what information apps can and can’t access, so just because Instagram can see who is viewing your account doesn’t mean that it has permission to share that information with you or another app.

This information hasn’t stopped many Android store apps from claiming that they can show you which accounts are all up in your business. But we can’t repeat it enough: These apps lie. We can’t tell you what they’re going to do, but you’re going to be disappointed.

So, can you see who has viewed your Instagram?

There is nothing that would make us happier than the ability to verify who is viewing our account. At least in theory. But here’s the thing: it’s probably good that we don’t know. This kind of knowledge would have only one real purpose for most people, and that purpose stresses you out.

Would it be good for your heart to know that your crush is looking at your page? What if they never looked at your page? Or on the other hand, do you want everyone you prowl about on Instagram to know when you’re there? There are mechanisms to keep people away from your social media if they make you uncomfortable, but beyond our curiosity, there is no good reason to know who is hiding you. Accept that in a world where we know everything about everyone, we are lucky to have this mystery left to us.
