Are you looking to remove paint from tiles after poorly protected floors or to re-bare a fully painted surface? If at first glance it is not easy to remove paint from a tile, with a little elbow grease, everything is possible with the right technique.
Scrape off old paint from the tiles
The first technique to remove paint from tiles is to carefully scrape it off. For this operation, we generally use the glass scraper, which we therefore divert from its primary function, because it is presented as the perfect tool for smooth surfaces.
There are several forms of window scraper, so we advise you to use a flat blade model and not a point, so as not to damage the tiles. For your convenience, also opt for a blade between 5 and 10 cm.
Then you just have to wet the tiles and let the paint soak for a few minutes so that you can then scrape it off. You can just use hot water for the acrylic paint, but for the glycero or epoxy paints you will need to apply acetone.
Finally, all you have to do is clean your tiles to regain its former beauty. There are no specific products for this task, you can apply household floor products that you are accustomed to using.
Strip stubborn paint from the tiles
If the paint on your tile is designed to have great grip and strength, the scraper technique will probably not be sufficient. In this case, you will have to opt for a paint stripper.
The stripper being an abrasive product, you must take care to protect the peripheral space of the tile to prevent it from coming into contact with another surface or an object. In accordance with the rules of use, also equip yourself with protective equipment: gloves, mask, glasses and an outfit covering the surface of your skin.
Carefully following the manufacturer’s instructions for use, apply the stripper with a flat brush gradually to small areas and leave it to act for a few minutes. You can then scrape your tiles with a scraper or spatula.
At the end of this stripping session, it is very likely that you will have to repeat the operation a second time. To clean your tile afterwards, rinse it thoroughly with clean water and use a scouring sponge to remove small particles of stubborn paint.
