How to Remove Silicone Depending on the Material?

Silicone is a product that tends to easily become encrusted on the materials and surfaces with which it comes into contact.

Depending on whether the residue is found on materials such as wood, tiles, windows or textiles for example, there are different suitable products that you can use to get rid of them.

Here are some tips and tricks to help you remove silicone depending on the nature of the materials involved.

Remove silicone stuck to wood

We recommend that you proceed with the withdrawal as soon as possible, while the deposit is still fresh. Otherwise the operation can be much more difficult once the silicone has hardened. Various solutions are available to you for cleaning.

One of the simplest and most effective is household alcohol, which you can use without worrying about damaging your wood surface. You can also use dishwashing liquid. You will pour some on the affected surface and let it sit for a few minutes then use a damp cloth to rid the glue on the wood.

Remove silicone from glass surfaces

It is recommended to proceed carefully to clean the glass without risking damaging or scratching it. To remove the dried silicone from your windows, you will need:

  • Preferably a plastic spatula (to avoid scratches). But a cutter or razor can also do the trick.
  • Acetone or white spirit
  • A window cleaner or washer
  • A cloth or rag
  • Gloves and glasses to protect you from projections.

Once you have everything you need, use the spatula or the cutter to scrape lightly and reduce the amount of silicone on the glass surface. Then use the cloth / cloth previously soaked in acetone or white spirit to rub the affected surface to dislodge the silicone. You can finally use your window cleaner to clean and restore the shine to the glass.

Remove silicone from tiles

An effective solution to removing putty from your tiles is the use of nail polish remover. Depending on the importance of the mass of silicone to be removed, you will probably need to arm yourself with a cutter or a scraper in order to reduce a good amount.

Once this preliminary step has been completed, all you have to do is apply a good dose of solvent on the surface concerned. Leave it on for about 30 minutes, then use a cloth or your squeegee to loosen the rest of the silicone and clean the surface.

Besides the nail polish remover, you can also use other effective products such as clay stone, grout remover or white spirit to remove silicone from your tiles.
