Saint Exupéry: The people of Lyon shun the airport

Passenger traffic at the airport Lyon Saint Exupery fell slightly over the first half of 2012: -2.3% A trend that can be explained by the crisis and the withdrawal of certain important companies.

It has been a long time since the airport of Lyon Saint Exupery hadn’t seen a drop like this. After five years of strong growth, the airport is trying to consolidate its attendance in 2012 and 2013. The objective is to reach nearly 11 million passengers in 2016. Since January, 4,070,980 have passed through Lyon Saint Exupery. This is less than last year, especially in May: -9.8% compared to last year. A decrease which can be explained by presidential elections and the various bridges. In June, traffic resumed with an increase of 0.5%.
The most impacted destinations are Meeting : -41.7%, the Norway and the Greece. The departure of the company Corsair in regional airports is the main cause of this lack of interest in thea Meeting in Lyon. On the contrary, Ireland, Canada and Spain are doing well with increased attendance for these three destinations. In June, we also noticed an increase in traffic to North Africa: + 14.9% for the Tunisia.
Lyon airports is now betting on the opening of the Lyon – Dubai line on December 5, to open up to new horizons.
