Sexuality at the time of the pandemic: The big boom in sex toys!

The successive periods of confinement are truly considered to be the golden age of masturbation, and especially of the use of sex toys. According to the Ifop study, the use of sex toys reached peaks during the year 2020. Real underlying trend driven by the health situation as well as by the democratization of sextoys, zoom on well-being sexual at the time of the pandemic.

The great boom in the use of sex toys

It is clear that the use of sex toys in France is becoming more and more widespread. The Covid-19 pandemic does not seem to be innocent of this phenomenon. Indeed, faced with successive periods of confinement and a gloomy context, many people have wanted to spice up their intimate life through the use of sextoys, new sexual practices or even bondage.

According to the Ifop study carried out on a sample of 2012 people representative of the French, this is the very first time that the use of sex toys has exceeded 50%. Indeed, 51% of French people say they have already used a sex toy. Three in ten French people used a sextoy during 2020, an annual consumption level that is reaching record highs.

Online stores as well as specialized physical stores recorded historic sales as soon as the confinements were announced. The year 2020 is synonymous with a record year for this sector.

The democratization of the image of the sextoy

Beyond the impact of the health situation which has boosted the use of sex toys, this phenomenon tends to accelerate thanks to the free speech on the subject. This subject is particularly taboo and many people have lifted the veil on sex toys. For example, a large number of celebrities are free to speak on social networks by becoming brand ambassadors.

Also, the image of sex toys is changing and improving more and more. They are considered to be pleasure accelerators to spice up one’s intimacy. More than two-thirds of French people believe that erotic toys boost their pleasure.

Freedom of speech in couples

The study also highlighted the fact that the use of sex toys is breaking all the codes. Considered to be reserved for solitary use, the sex toy is more and more popular with couples. On the contrary, the use is more part of married life than solitary. The couples who have already used two are 46% against 36% alone. Surprising, isn’t it?
