A tile plinth is a small strip that is placed at the bottom of a wall along the floor in a home. You can also put it along the exterior walls of the house. The tile plinth can be considered both as a decoration, an element of security and comfort. It also offers a beautiful seat on the wall. Why is it necessary and how do you put them? We tell you everything here.
How important are baseboards?
The plinths are important in a dwelling insofar as they constitute a kind of fortress, a base for the walls. In a house inhabited by a large family and where children and pets live together, it is necessary to place baseboards. Indeed, the animals will tend to climb the walls by making them dirty.
Children on the other hand can kick each time they play together. These situations can negatively impact the walls of the house. The wall covering is then degraded. However, the presence of plinths makes it possible to strengthen the walls against interior and exterior shocks and to fight against humidity in the house.
In addition to protecting the walls, baseboards reinforce the interior decoration of your home. Children new to school can write on the walls in places where it is sometimes difficult to erase them. It is to correct this that it is important to install tile baseboards at home. They also serve as camouflage for expansion joints. Small holes in the walls are camouflaged as well as cutouts and cracks.
It must be said that baseboards are today considered one of the stages of finishing the house. Decorators recommend installing partition baseboards at the bottom of the interior walls of your house. They give the impression of having increased the dimensions of the house. On the other hand, we can also install plinths in order to reduce the spaces of a room.
What does it take to install plinths on a tile?
Generally, the glue is what is needed for the installation of the baseboards. But there are different kinds of glue to use.
Opt for acrylic glue
There are several types of glue when it comes to installing baseboards on tiles. But we recommend that you first opt for acrylic glue. It is a very popular glue by decoration specialists because it does not contain any solvents.
This means that the acrylic glue simultaneously acts as a paint after a few hours of drying. It is used in several other types of work. It glues baseboards, wood, PVC moldings, etc.
It is recommended to use polymer glue to install the baseboards at the bottom of your walls. Regardless of the quality of the wall (cement or plaster), polymer glue is impressively resistant. Everyone who uses it for their tiling work no longer needs other accessories. Whether it’s raining or snowing, the baseboards glued with polymer glue will never come off. Do not hesitate to use it to glue the plinths of the living room or the bathroom, because it effectively resists humidity.
It is a glue that is used to glue porcelain tiles. However, it is not recommended for bonding imitation porcelain tiles. It is advantageous for a quick setting. Indeed, as soon as you place the neoprene glue on the tile, the gluing is done at the same time.
However, if you want a satisfactory result with this glue, make a second glue. The glue is sold as an aerosol, in a jar or in a tube. It’s up to you to choose what suits you best. We still deplore the strong smell of the glue and its sensitivity to cold (humidity).
What are the steps for installing skirting boards
The success of the plinths follows certain stages. We must first prepare the wall. This consists of its cleaning. Make sure that the wall to house the baseboards is clean and dry, wrinkle-free, flat and solid.
It also means that you must remove the old baseboards and any glue residue if there is any. Pay special attention to the quality of the wall so as not to mix the brushes. Indeed, the preparation of a cement wall is very different from that of plaster.
Then take the length of the wall while defining the number of tiles to use. To succeed in this step, you can for example make a mark tracing at the bottom of the wall. Then you line up the baseboards and the tile joints as normal. The final step is then the use of the glue chosen according to the work to be done.
Put the glue on the surface of the baseboard, then put it in the right place by pressing hard on it for a few seconds. It is also necessary to make a good installation of the seals. To finish your job in style, you need to clean the baseboards with a slightly wet sponge and a dry flap.
